Dan Golinsky

October 10, 1952- November 12, 2016

Born on a United States Air Force Base in Nagoya, Japan, excitement followed Dan Golinsky everywhere he went. Dan spent his formative years in Montgomery, Alabama, the middle child of Leon Golinsky and Sara Franco Golinsky. Together with older brother Billy and younger brother Larry, Dan grew up surrounded by loving family, who urged happiness, pride and determination above all else. Along the way, Dan lived up to being the raucous middle child bringing smiles to those around him.

Dan used his brain and his time wisely, working to become a star player on the high school football team and winning elections to make him president of his high school. Dan attended the University of Alabama, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and earned his J.D. as well.

Dan had a deep passion for real estate, an industry in which he worked for the better part of forty years. From New York to San Antonio to eventually Miami, Dan continued to leave his mark on the landscape around him, with projects such as the Regal Cinema on Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road standing as a testament to his hard work and foresight. Through real estate, Dan brought unprecedented value to the cities he called home while fostering a number of meaningful relationships with peers and mentors, many of whom he would call his closest friends.

Outside of work, Dan had a number of interests. Dan possessed an insatiable intellect and was a voracious reader, always educating himself on something new. A diehard Alabama football fan, Dan would never miss a game on TV, typically watching them with father Leon and the rest of the family. Dan also loved skiing with his brothers, going on a variety of “adventures” with his kids Evan and Marlee, and hosting parties at the beloved Golinsky family home in Coconut Grove. He loved Labrador Retrievers, with Leo and Levi his loyal companions.

Above all else, Dan cherished his family. Dan was deeply committed to his parents, taking care of them in old age. Dan loved his wife Myrna of twenty years, and the two beautiful children they had who became their world. He spent tons of time with his two brothers and was a cornerstone of his extended family. Dan was also blessed to have a large group of eclectic friends, who could count on him for thoughtful advice and never-ending humor.

The world lost one of the good ones all too soon, but his soul and his wisdom lives on in all who knew him, particularly his kids. By retelling Dan’s stories and living life the way Dan would have, to the fullest, we can carry his legacy from generation to generation. A legacy underscored by the importance of laughter!
